Fireflies Inspire The Creation of a Light That does not Need Power to Shine

Fireflies Inspire The Creation of a Light That does not Need Power to ShineThe fireflies are perfect animals for scientific inspire a hunger for energy efficiency. And so it has been for some U.S. scientists, because these animals are not only bright in the dark, but also on being the best example of something as incredible as bioluminescence, biological lighting which now inspires science to create light artificial to 30 times more efficient than previous similar experiments. Leeds will be the new future, but do not need no plugs or batteries, and not science fiction.

Will be using nanotechnology as leverage the natural bioluminescence of fireflies to create a similar system that combines biological elements (enzymes) and biological (nanotubes). Walk it engaged a team of scientists from the University of Syracuse New York, with the aim of creating natural lighting that emulates this bioluminescence.

Get it, no doubt, would be a giant step forward for co clean energy technologies, and in an article published by Nano Letters this team say they are getting it. His intention is to exploit the chemical reaction that makes fireflies glow through a process known as resonance energy transfer from the bioluminescence (BRET, for its acronym in English). That is, basically have created a system or way of linking the enzymes responsible for bioluminescence with the nanotube surface, a distance that increases the efficiency.

In addition, the team was able to change the color of the lights produced and, although still under development, its creators do not doubt that these nanotubes are substitutes for LED lights. Even venture that could be fabricated parts that fit perfectly within the LED to give them a much higher efficiency. And best of all, without having to connectarlas not need batteries!
